Hi! I'm thatcomicsguy. My password is working again, but apparently I'm a 100% new member! Wow. All my past accomplishments and sins are erased! WhooHoo! Who needs history? I feel fresh and new! So...
What is everybody talking about here? Like battery operated art supplies or something?
I finally made it onto the new new forum as well :)
I think I was franzander on the previous two forums as well (I hope the name is displayed correctly here now as well), looking forward to sharing technological experiences and adventures here again.
My devices at the moment:
Galaxy Fold 4, Onyx Boox Note 2, Galaxy Tab S6, GPD Win Max 2 (2023)
Hey. thatcomicsguy here. So.., I did a dumb thing, (or the site's funky today), but while doing some housecleaning, I erased a few hundred cookies from my browser, and now I can't log in to the site. Apparently, I couldn't reset my password because my email wasn't recognized. That can't be right. Anyway.., I set up a new account in order to leave this message in a bottle...
I hope everything is okay. Cheers!
I'm Steve S. I suspect that I am one of the older members on this forum because I started with portable computing back in the early to mid 1980's when I became the proud owner of a Poqet 286 (i think) mini-clamshell computer. Somewhere along the line, I started using a Palm PD and from that point, there was no looking back. My first real tablet PC was a Fujitsu ST4120 that I bought in the early 2000's It was about the same time that I started following online forums, in particular tablet-related forums. I worked my way through a number of memorable tablet PCs including the Samsung Series 7, the VAIO Canvas and the HP ZBook X2. Along the way I started to participate in some of the online forums such as Rob Bushway's GottaBeMobile, TechnologyGuide's TabletPCReview (the original), TPCR 2 (Sonic) and now the current TPCR. My current daily driving is split between an Asus Z13, a Surface Pro 8 and a now five-year old HP ZBook X2 which despite its age can still hold its own. I also own an 11" iPad Pro and an iPad Mini (so I can keep up with Apple developments).
In real life I am currently a technical advisor to a DC law firm that provides legal services to the aerospace industry. My career has spanned more than 50 years, during which I worked on the development of a variety of aircraft.
Hello. I'm the Bishop, stand-up philosopher, and State Procurer.
I started with Tablet PC's when Microsoft launched the form factor back at the turn of the century 😁. Because I spent several years as an MS MVP, I got to handle a lot of the early models and spent a lot of time with the Motion Tablet PC slates.
I was all in on Windows Phone when they pulled that plug (I am still scarred.) The iPod was my Apple gateway fix. I bounced back and forth between Apple and Android for phones, until Google went in hard on hoovering up personal data for resale purposes. Now I actually do more inking/handwriting on the iPad than my PCs. If the Tablet PC revolution has failed, it's because the software never delivered.
While I've given up on @Dale Strauss 's unicorn, I still harbor a secret dream that the promise of the original Huawei Matebook and Samsung Galaxy Book 12 might one day deliver a true Windows slate on an iPad chassis before Microsoft becomes or is absorbed by Google.

Hi All - I'm Dale, the site curmudgeon!
My guiding star is the impossible unicorn - one device to do it all - a MacPad (MacOS on iPad) or WinPad (Windows on an ipad-size/feature device). Spoiler alert - neither Apple nor Microsoft will grant my unicorn wish.
I'm a lifelong DOS/Windows user (since DOS 2.11 on a Toshiba T1100 Plus to Windows 11 Pro), but found the light with my current rig - previously owned M1 Max MacBook Pro 14 (32gb/2tb) and M1 iPad Pro 11 (1tb). It took a little over a year to make myself stick with it, but I'm fully comfortable in the walled garden.
So come join the tribe - a lot of helpful people here, and alot of fun to boot.
Hey all, I'm James.
I got into tablets primarily for digital art. I used to always carry around a moleskin or similar small sized sketchbook with me. When tablets first became a thing I dreamed of having one as a digital sketchbook for a long time before I finally got my first one, and HTC Flyer running Android with an N Trig pen. As inaccurate as the pen was, I loved that device, and it became my moleskin for several years before it died.
My next tablet was an HP Omni 10 that I won in an online giveaway. That was my first real tablet PC, running Windows, but didn't support a stylus so I didn't really know what to do with it. That's about the time I found the original Tablet PC Review site, and found a lot of help searching out my next tablet PC, a Lenovo Mix 700. That became my digital sketchbook and main PC for years. It's still hanging on, and is used by my kids (like violajack, also homeschooled), as their school computer.
When I replaced the Lenovo, I turned to TPCR once again for help in choosing the best device as a digital sketchbook and landed on the iPad Pro for the combination of pen performance, portability, and good battery life. I was a long time Apple hater before that switch, and I would have gone for a Samsung Galaxy Tab with SPen, but at the time, it had far less drawing apps, and iPad had my preferred app, Clip Studio Paint. And since Wacom's Mobile Studio Pro had atrocious battery and weighed 3 times as much as an iPad Pro, I swallowed my pride and went with a 2020 12.9" iPad Pro.
Somewhere in there I also got a Huawei Mate 20X that had a screen almost as big as my old HTC Flyer. I also loved the Mate 20X and it was a great small sketchbook, until Huawei got banned and no software updates happened. Now I'm on a Pixel, though tempted by the S24 Ultra, even if it's not as large as my old Mate 20X.
Now I have a MacBook Pro, the 12.9" iPad Pro, and a 20202 M2 11" iPad Pro. So I guess I don't hate Apple as much anymore.
My biggest dream for my tech now is to get MacOS on an iPad Pro so I can drop down to one machine other than my phone.
Hi all! I'm violajack.
I'm a music teacher and homeschool mom, so my tech use centers around displaying large PDFs (sheet music and school books). I primarily use OneNote to share books with the kids; about 2/3rds of our work is done with digital pen on digital paper.
I use MobileSheets Pro on android and windows to display sheet music for practice and performance. I have used Forescore on iPad and still consider the best alternative for non-techy folks wanting to get into digital sheet music in performance.
I have a solid case of tech-ADHD and some good FOMO to go with it, so I keep several rotating options for when I get bored of one ecosystem.
