I have an Onyx Boox Nova3 Color and love it. It's probably 3 years old now. Battery life is still great. Color saturation is okay. Could use a faster CPU. Since I got a Galaxy Fold 6 Phone, I use the Boox less. But it's great for reading by the pool in summer.
Before buying, make sure you look at some comparisons of the white level of color vs monochrome screens. I've read comments that the white on some color screens is quite a bit more dim than on monochrome e-readers.
My boox tab mini c is very nice for reading. They also make a Go Color 7 with a Kaleido 3 screen that I would imagine is equally nice for reading, but a little less expensive. The Tab Mini C does come in a no-pen version, but I would think the $50 savings wouldn't be worth it to leave something like that out, but then I don't even like my phone to not have a pen, so my thoughts on the need for pen support is biased.
There are some apps that won't run on the Mini C, and best I can figure, it's the lack of camera? They work on the very similar Tab Ultra C. Google play complains that they aren't compatible, but doesn't tell me why. These are not reading apps, so if you're just reading, I imagine it would be okay, but you should see if you can find reviews that confirm the apps you might want to read from work.
There's a deal on the Kindle Colorsoft 32GB right now, $230 with 3mo of Kindle Unlimited, down from $280.

I have Onyx Air C. Works fine, the color is muted, but I'm happy
