I watched this one and have been increasingly considering this move for my situation at home ever since. I was debating on getting an M2 Pro Mac mini that I just leave on all the time with a VM program on my IPP to remote into it from anywhere else in my house. I don't have cellular on my IPP, so away will be more challenging, but there's lots of places with WiFi. Since we're so close to the likely M4 Mini, I'm waiting to see what improvements it gets. There's rumors they're making it an even smaller footprint, which would be nice for my crowded desk.

I've literally gone back to using my SP9 rather than my M1 iPad Pro 12.9" due to things like being able to load my extensions on Firefox--which I can't do to iPadOS Firefox. Limitations like that abound. I get tired of workarounds--even if it means a worse tablet experience overall.

Just allowing a different browser than Safari would be amazing on iPadOS. As is everything is just skinned Safari, so I just use Safari.

I would probably be in the same boat as you if I used my IPP for more than just 4 things. As is it's a very simple device for me. Art, writing, and content consumption primarily around art and writing.

I'm honestly kind of torn on installing jump desktop on it and using it as my portable MacBook because it will break some of the enforced habits I currently have with it, which is to say, I'll probably get more distracted when I'm trying to focus on creativity.

And that's why I might end up going back to it, honestly. We'll have to see. I could use it for the tablet-y things for which it is well-suited. Taking notes, listening to music on bluetooth speakers, writing on Scrivener, etc.,

But man is it nice to have a full PC at times. Still deciding.

After watching Joz and Craigy just trashing the idea of MacOS at WWDC I don't think they will relent even if the EU forces sideloading apps, because Apple still won't release ther underlying MacOS frameworks.

There's times I hate both Apple and Microsoft becausee they don't do what I WANT THEM TO DO! It's always all about me. They both want all of the money in my bank account, and I've spent far too much with both. I just don't know what to do anymore...

I agree with you in part, but side loaded apps do two things that might sway things. They may cut down on that 30% cut that Apple gets for apps that make iPads worth keeping locked down for them, and, it allows users to bypass some of their “Apple Way” apps in albeit limited ways. If Apple gets frustrated with how that works, and is no longer seeing the profits they were making anyway, it might make sense to do a “for the first time ever” so much wow “Mac OS on iPad! Magical!”

I love the idea, and hope they take your advice, but I think it will just bifurcatte the expereience between EU customers and the rest of the world. Look how they are jerking around third party stores in the EU - literally making it harder than just giving in and doing it their way...
