UPDATE Owen Grove (finally identiifed in a later version of the video) from the Verge has put it all together - "No MacPad for us" because Apple does not get a 15-30% cut of software and subscription revenues on the Mac compared to the iPhone and iPad (that and few other reasons, including cannibalizing Mac sales, just a good little piece of journalism - but could never find where they identified him):

I just REFUSE to let this go. Here's a reviewer who set up a VM to run MacOS remote on his M1 12.9" iPad Pro and loved it, and I agree with his conclusion: "Apple - STOP BEING A DICK!"
Firefox extensions has been very nice to have feature for me.
I realize I named this a "Never" thread, but more and more writers, pundits, and just regular users REPEATEDLY hammer Apple for the poor development of iPadOS. I was in Best Buy yesterday and there was no more impressive kit than the M4 iPad Pro 11" with the new keyboard. The new functions of the Pencil Pro were game changing - able to just squeeze the barrel and switch pens/colors on the fly! Even Michael Simon gets this: https://www.macworld.com/article/2414833/the-m4-ipad-pro-is-impossible.html
BUT - even iPadOS 18 beta is a downer. I will admit the new option in Files to force the system to keep chosen files/folders on your device is a real improvement, BUT THERE IS NO VALID REASON FOR NOT OFFERING MACOS AS AN OPTION!
TIM/CRAIG/JOZ - JUST CHARGE US $500 FOR THE OPTION TO BOOT INTO MACOS AND GET OVER IT.
Otherwise i hope iPad Pro sales continue to tank!
I hope that the eventual EU ruling will force side loading of apps, and Apple will be forced to switch trajectory. If that ever happens, we may finally see the option of a MacPad. It's either that, or I just give up and go back to Windows.
