As disappointed as I was with the new iPad Mini as impressed I am with the new iMac Mini. They really shrunk that case while improving performance. If I was a Mac user I’d be all over that device.
I am always humbled by the sway Apple has over 3rd party
For those complaining about the Power Button, on Amazon you can buy an Aluminum Chassis Stand that holds the Mac Mini in a Verticle position, but also makes it look like a super cute Mac Pro Desktop complete with the cheese grater look
Also, MicroCenters are currently selling the Mac Mini M4 Base model for $499, $100 off
I currently have my M4 Mini sitting on a candy container that is about the exact size of the base, so the power button, that I haven't even pressed since first booting it up, is accessible. I'm not doing it for the power button though, but because all the cables sticking out the back are pretty stiff and my slot for cables to go through is raised to almost the exact height of said container.
I might just cut a new groove for the cables though and drop it back down if I never end up pressing that button.
I am probably still going to upgrade my 13" M1 Macbook Pro with another laptop mac. Will see what I can get the best deal on. But these Minis are so good if you are mostly in one place.
It is as small as a NUC device, so quite portable. Granted an iMac is easier to carry around and faster to put into use. But if you only move occassionally then a backpack together with portable screen is at least doable (and kind of eye catching in a Starbucks). Still can’t believe the some maker of portable screens hasn’t tried to market a foldable screen.
I am 99.99% sure I'm getting one. Just not sure which one. I was talking with my wife about it. The base M4 with 24gb ram would be plenty for what I do for the foreseeable future, and while the M4 Pro would definitely be more future proof, at over $500 more I could basically buy the M7 or whatever shiny new mini in 4-5 years and come out even if the base M4 starts to slow down enough.
The only thing that gives me pause is, currently my software development uses don't touch x-code, but if I decide to branch out into more graphic intensive apps, the M4 Pro would be nice.
But with education discount and trading in my Intel MBP, I can get the base M4 with 24 gb ram for $430. I'll just use jump desktop on my IPP if I need MacOS on the go.
Just to update you, I've been using Jump Desktop on my 11" iPad Pro along with my M4 Mac Mini (went with 24GB base, not Pro). I have the mini direct connection to my modem via Ethernet. I've used it via Jump from both inside and outside the home through other wifi networks and so far no issues. I had to also download BetterDisplay, which let me create a virtual display and adjust the aspect ratio so I don't have black bars and can see the desktop clearly. It's not perfect, still not as crispy as it would be natively, but it works for me. I'm on a trial of the Pro version of BetterDisplay. Not sure if I will need it for the virtual display when the trial is up, but it's worth it.
Anyway, it makes th iPad Pro a MacPad for all intents and purposes Except that the pen only works as a pen with iPadOS and not on the Mac Mini through Jump.
And honestly, I don't use it that much. I still use iPadOS for art and such. It's just the few desktop apps that are better on Mac OS that I really like having Jump for.
Right? This thing looks like a winner. The one head-scratcher is the fact that the power button is on the underside of the device! I guess they really want you to just use sleep, not shutdown.
I bought mine a few weeks back and absolutely adore it.

This is an intriguing design and comnbination...but I just live for laptops...
