I'm posting more here to try and keep myself out of trouble, but it may be too late. I've found a good deal on some older thinkpad yogas on facebook marketplace. I've had to give up Bazzite on the Ally to keep the kids happy with xbox game pass as they've been obsessed with TABS again. So, I needed a new machine to scratch my linux itch. The surface pro x is not looking like a good option and my other thinkpads are feeling a little too old these days.
So, should I go pick up a Gen 4 yoga? They also have a gen 3 I was thinking to upgrade my youngest's current yoga 260. That would at least get him to a generation that fully supports windows 11.
Do I need a few more thinkpads?
So, I got both. Turns out the Gen 4 didn't have 4G as advertised, but it made a great upgrade for my youngest who was still on a yoga 270. The Gen 3 does have 4G and a microsd slot and I'm actually okay with that becoming my daily driver for a while.
I'm enjoying the flat deck with the keyboard that sinks in when the screen goes down. They took that out with gen 4. 4G is nice to have. It's scores slightly higher on Geekbench than the SQ2 Surface Pro X I had been using, and I have the Ally for gaming stuff, so I think performance will be fine until the ADHD kicks in and I start looking for the next thing.
I did order a replacement battery as the current one is at about 75% capacity and dies suddenly under 20%. I am contemplating an SSD upgrade and a matte screen protector.
Ubuntu is beautiful on it, but the 4G doesn't work, nor does screencasting, which I do use for our school time.
The ThinkPad Reddit is CONSUMED with people stacking them up, lots of them. I don't get it.
