As reported on Reddit, I cannot get the SP11 printing to my networked printer. Of course, no one else is reporting such an issue, and repeated removals and reinstalls always end up with the same result - can print test pages but anything sent to the printer from a program causes the printer to burp and then stop with no printer error or cue.
DO NOT TRY TO HELP FIX IT - this is for info only, as the SP11 will be going back to MS when I get back from Portland around the 1st of July.
I'm BEYOND disappointed with Microsoft - the ONLY thing that keeps me loooking is the continuing desire for a one device solution (especially with 5g). But I just don't see MS delivering something that I won't feel that I am always fighting them to control my own device...
UPDATE (07/18/24)
The SP11 and Microsoft Complete extended warranty hav e now been refunded. MS sent me a return label for the Flex Keyboard, which is going back by UPS today, so everything shold be back to square one in a few days.
FYI: Even from my short exposure to X Elite, it does have better batteyr life than my SP8, but performance wise on day to day tasks (Office 365; Chrome; Adobe Acorbat Pro) is not noticably better. Plus, I at least have 4g LTE on my SP8 (with no repsonse from MS on when we'll see 5g other than "later this year").
FYI 2: The Surface line was born, in part, on the "clean" installation of Windows. With Windows 11, Thurrott's "crapification" of Windows is now complete whether it's a Surface or other OEM.
UPDATE (07/04/24)
The SP11 has been received by MS Support and they have issued the refund for it.
No idea yet how they are handling the refund for the unshipped Flex Keyboard.
Assume (I know what that means) the Compete team will refund that next week.
Current plan is to just stick with the M1 Max MBP14 and M1 iPad Pro. Good advice has come my way that there is no reason to give up all the superlative features of these two to downgrade to the MBA and iPad Mini for nearly $1000 cost.
Yes, it does. When I finally got SP8 restored I was questioning why I just don't stick with it, then the adventure really began and it just reminded me that MS NEVER GIVES UP pushing their garbage. I had the two reps (call 1 AND call 2) asked me more than three times EACH whether I was wanting servcie and told them MORE THAN THREE TIMES EACH it was a return and cancellation.
I'm just a fly speck - but it MS is really going broke returning my $107 (discounted) Surface Complete payment, things are really bad in Bellevue...
TL&DR - Surface Pro 11 returned to Microsoft AND they have lost a customer.
First 45 minute call: Surface Pro 11 return approved; resetting now and going by UPS to El Paso TX this afternoon. Surface Pro Flex Keyboard another problem - hasn't been shipped; they don't know when it will ship; so they are having problems cancelling the shipment that. they can't find but assured me they'll refund in 3-4 business days.
Next 58 minute call: Longest headache is getting MS Complete 3-Year plan cancelled and refunded. They couldn't understand why I'd want to return a perfectly good Surface Pro 11 - ha ha ha. Actually couldn't seem to sort out the fact I had RETURNED the device instead of more troubleshooting or submitting a repair claim - duh. Now I've been told this refund needs to be "escalated" as this person can issue a reufnd, and they should have a decision on WHETHER they will refund in 2-3 business days...THAT MAKE MY DECISION VERY EASY AT THIS POINT...
Restore of my Surface Pro 8: Teladvance did return my SP8 - YEA - but for some reason it would not let me log back into my 1tb drive when I switched it back into the SP8. Kept saying invalid PIN then invalid PASSWORD. Refused to let me reset the PIN (after it asked me to do so) because of a "security setting change" on the device...SOOOOOOO...I'm reinstalling Windows 11 and putting my stuff back onto it.
Next Step(s):
First: The Surface Pro 11 is a beautiful device; OLED is gorgeous for any media (streaming, videos and photographs) but glare is a real problem compared to my MBP14. As for text, any document in Word or Excel that used black text on a white background looked dark gray and a bit fuzzy on an off-white background. To these old eyes it was headache inducing to work on my client files and documents.
Second: Never got HP Laserjet Pro MFP M428fdw to print, nor the Canon ImageFormula R40 to scan (whether connected to hub or direct USB connection).
Third: I would not buy any ARM Copilot+ PC, despite how good a value it might be, UNTIL Intel Meteor Lake launches this fall. If the Intel units have close to comparable battery life and thermals, I WOULD NOT GO DOWN THE ARM ROAD. There is just no reason to suffer any compatibility issuse.
Fourth: The reason for setting up the SP8 again (clean install) is to have a backup device while I sort out where I go next with my Apple gear. I really don't like slogging around with two devices, much less the 4.5# of the MBP 14 and M1 iPad Pro 11. Pondering downsizing to refurbs of a M3 MBA and iPad Mini 6, but those are both feature downsizes as well.
Fifth (and LAST): Microsoft has DEINITELY lost my business. From being jerked around by their trade-partner-in-crime, Teladvance; to a very protracted and painful return process; to their VP idiot who says it's ok to steal peoples copyrighted works if they publish it on the "open web..."
MICROSOFT IS FUBAR...
The PAIN, the PAIN...
Should we have an event for the first dstraussing at the new forum?
Do you have the address for that drop off location?
Awesome! So, how do I see my change my profile name and pic?
edit: NVM, figured it out.
Well, I see gif's work here 🙄
You have to manually quote people here.
#Markdown
It gets converted as you type, which is neat if you're someone who likes to use that. Single asterisks before and after create italics, double asterisks make it bold, and ***triple asterisks*** ... don't do bold italics as they should so don't bother. 😹
"the SP11 will be going back to MS when I get back from Portland around the 1st of July."
Yes! The long-awaited first dstraussing event since second TPCR exile. Mark your calendars, people. ;) 😁
