Before you start yelling that I’ve lost my marbles, I’m very well aware of the situation.
So, I have a SP3 that gets two digit miles under the hood during a year. I mainly use it to administer my e-books and I have some software on it that lets me borrow books from my local library back in Sweden. As you might imagine, getting my hands on Swedish books in Japan is a quest for the insane. Once in an eon I might also run Word in case I’m doing some serious editing since it has a bigger screen than my Surface Go. But that is it.
A little while ago when I was checking out books from my library in Sweden it just went poof, black screen and the backside was hot and I mean 🔥. Seems the battery is just out of juice, the anodes are gone, or whatever.
I am actually thinking about replacing the battery since it runs fine. But have no idea if it can be done. No Microsoft service station in the neighborhood but there are some PC shops that offer repair work. Still too hot during day time so will wait for cooler weather.
Thanks to forum member Kuma for a smooth and trouble-free (well, almost trouble free) international transaction. In a first for me, Kuma wired the shipping cost (and the all-important $1 American!) by Western Union and I was able to pick up the cash at my local Walmart without any trouble. Interestingly, the only thing they asked me was to spell Kuma's name while hiding their computer screen. Once I did that, deal done!
Kuma, I hope that the Pro X serves you well...!
So I took Steve S up on the offer of purchasing the Pro X for a dollar plus shipping, Let’s just say that shipping was more than a dollar. But ohh was it worth it.
It arrived yesterday, after a small delivery snag (postal workers are bureaucrats hence process oriented not solution focused) and it was in absolutely pristine condition. Came complete with charger, Signature kryboard and Slim Pen. Everything was reset to factory setting, but upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11. The packaging was more proffessional than FedEx/UPS.
Steve was even helpful in finding a solution to the delivery snag, an absolute pleasure. So anyone who wants to make a purchase fr[m Steve S, rest assured that he will all the way and beyond to make sure you’ll be happy customer.
Now I’m going to learn more about WOA, Win 11 and the Slim Pen! Probably won’t be back for a few days becasue I’m way to exuberant at the moment!
Kuma: If you are willing to pay for shipping and whatever miscellaneous fees, I'll sell you my slightly used Surface Pro X (1st Gen) for $1. I'd like to see it go to a good home, even if no one there speaks English...!
I think you're between a rock and a hard place. The battery is only replaceable by pulling that over-glued screen. It was a 1/10 by iFixIt: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft+Surface+Pro+3+Teardown/26595?srsltid=AfmBOorzSqIPD3I8VD_6fbX9tsJafnJIpy3eh57vN66oQCp14NIv9YRD
